Day 3: Pitlochry to Blair
Atholl.
12 miles/18km.
Follow the A924 up to Moulin, then turn left
following a minor road out through open fields to reach the public car park
serving Ben Vrackie. A well marked path rises through the trees, soon emerging
on to open moorland. It climbs at a reasonable gradient to Loch a Choire with a
final steep ascent to the summit. The next section is without path:
descend north west into the valley of the Allt a’Mhagain and continue down to
Loinmarstaig. Join a track here and turn right, following this north to
Reinakyllich and then Shinagag. At the junction here, go left and the track
skirts the southern flank of Carn Liath to reach a small shed. Continue along
the track to Loch Moraig then follow the public road down to Blair Atholl via
Old Bridge of Tilt.
Day 4: Blair Atholl to Corrour
Bothy. 25 miles/40km.
Head north out of town back to Old Bridge of Tilt.
Turn left and cross this. A short way on, take the first right to join the main
track which heads north through Glen Tilt. It initially runs through woodland
before emerging in to the open just beyond Gilbert's Bridge. Carry on to
Marble Lodge beyond which the track crosses the River Tilt. It heads north east into
remote country, the final building Forest Lodge. Five miles on from here, leave
the track and a path continues along beside the river, rising to a bridge over
the stream below Falls of Tarf. Continue on to Loch Tilt, then Bynack Lodge (a
ruin). A mile from here the Geldie Burn has to be forded and on the far bank
there’s a ruined cottage. Continue north to White Bridge. On the other side of
the bridge, a path on the left heads through Glen Dee, following the north bank
of the River Dee. This leads to Corrour Bothy, in the shadow of The Devil’s
Point. |
